A touring caravan and camping park near Boston has been named Small Campsite of the Year in an annual awards scheme run by the AA.

Long Acres, in Station Road, Old Leake, received the accolade in the AA Caravan and Camping Awards for 2016.

The adult-only site, run by John and Tracey Plant, is the only award-winner for 2016 to be based in Lincolnshire.

It follows a coveted Gold Pennant award from the AA earlier this year. These, the AA says, are given to the ‘very best camping parks’.

All the winners will feature in the new edition of the best-selling AA Caravan and Camping Guide 2016.

A spokesman for the AA said: “Tardis-like, the site extends back from John and Tracey Plant’s beautiful bungalow and gardens. New arrivals are amazed when they see the well-designed and very tranquil camping area opening up as they drive through the gate.”

They added: “The hands-on owners are to be commended for transforming the long patch of land behind their property into a stunning park, one that deserves its new Gold Pennant status and the accolade of Small Campsite of the Year.”

John and Tracey have been at the site for three-and-a-half years.

Of winning the award, John said: “We are extremely proud we have done it. You put the hard work in and it’s just a bonus when anything like this comes along.”
