All the overhead electricity cables serving 106,000 homes on the Boston to Skegness pylon system are being changed over the next few months.
The pylons stretch for 18 miles following a route from Boston, via Fishtoft, Bennnington, Old Leake Commonside, Friskney, Wainfleet and ending at Croft, just outside Skegness.
This is the first time the wires have been changed since they were installed more than 50 years ago.
In some areas lower level wires are being taken down and run underground to stop any possibility of the live wires touching during the work.
Richard Horlington, Western Power Distribution’s projects team manager, said: “It ensures we can provide a high level of service to these areas in the long term by improving the backbone of our network infrastructure.”
Mr Horlington added: “We have liaised with Lincolnshire County Council and our aim is to keep any disruption to a minimum.”
WPD said there will be some disruption to a small number of customers, but ‘anyone affected will be written to and given notice in advance’.
WPD said the investment will improve supply reliability and service levels.
