POLICE are promising to have a visible presence in Boston during this summer’s European football championships to ensure the town does not suffer the ‘blight’ of violence.
Campaigner Dean Everitt asked Chief Insp Timmins what will be done to prevent a repeat of the problems of 2004, when football fans sparked a small scale riot.
Chief Insp Timmins said: “That trouble was caused by drunken football fans, you can’t possibly link that to any tensions in the town.
“This year the football is hosted by Poland and the Ukraine and there are added issues about that, no doubt about it.
“We will do a lot of work with licensees over who they let in and we are going to have a visible presence and make sure that sort of problem doesn’t blight Boston again.”
