Man warns of gold chain scam

POLICE are appealing for information following a scam in which a Boston man’s gold chain was stolen.

The victim was walking his dog in Rosebery Avenue at about 5pm last Sunday. As he was getting back in his car he alleges a dark-coloured BMW pulled up and a man got out and came over to him asking if he wanted to buy a gold chain, putting it around his neck.

The victim told the man to take it off as he didn’t want to buy it.

But when he got home he discovered his solid gold chain had been replaced for a worthless one.

He told The Standard: “I’ve had the chain for 25 years, and asides from being worth about £300, it was very sentimental to me.”

The offender is described as white, Eastern European, of large build, and about 5ft 6ins tall.

Anyone with information should call police by dialling 101 and quoting incident number 200 of July 22.
