Man who drove to buy booze after he had already had a drink banned from the roads

A MAN who drove to buy alcohol after he had already had a drink has been banned from the roads for 14 months.

Arunas Zalpys was visiting his cousin in Boston when he was caught out by police on the Market Place, Boston magistrates heard.

The 42-year-old, who admitted driving with excess alcohol, was found to have a reading of 55 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, Jim Clare, prosecuting, told the court.

Mitigating, Mark Hudson said: “He took a risk – as simple as that. He realises he shouldn’t have done it and he has no explanation for why he took that risk.”

On top of ban, magistrates gave Zalpys, of Chiltern View, Letchworth Garden City, a fine for £300 and told him to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
