A mother pig had her throat cut and was cruelly left to die before her two piglets were stolen from a field in Gosberton.
The incident took place in Belnie Lane sometime on the weekend, between late afternoon or early evening on Saturday and 5.30pm on Sunday.
Lincolnshire Police, who have just released these details, are now hunting those responsible and appealing for those with information about the offence or the whereabouts of the piglets to come forward.
A spokesman said: “Shockingly, the offender or offenders also slashed the five-year-old adult mother pig across the head and throat and left her to die.
“The owner of the pigs found her almost dead and she had to be put down.”
PC Pete Holland of Spalding police is investigating the incident and is keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in Belnie Lane over the relevant time period.
It is also possible that the stolen two piglets may have surfaced in another area with little or no explanation as to where they may have come from.
Anyone who has any information about this offence is asked to contact PC Holland by the non-emergency 101 number or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
