A TOWN Ranger suffered a serious hand injury during an incident with a suspected shoplifter on Sunday.

At about midday a shopper in Aldi reported to a security guard that they had seen a man trying to steal a bottle of whiskey.

The suspect then made off past Asda towards Irby Street and was intercepted by a Town Ranger.

During the incident - which is being treated as an assault - a bottle was broken and the ranger suffered a serious cut to the hand.

The rangers are paid for by Boston BID to patrol the town centre.

A suspect has been reported to officers who are now trying to piece together the exact details of what happened.

DC Remy Simon, from Boston CID, would like to trace any witnesses who were in Aldi at the time of the alleged theft, and especially the witness who alerted the security guard.

Anyone with information should contact Lincolnshire Police by dialling 101 and quoting the incident number 197 of August 26.
