Shoppers turned away after fire at Tesco store

A FIRE at Tesco in Boston caused disruption for shoppers today (Tuesday).

The New Hammond Beck Road outlet was closed from 8.15am-9.45am following an outbreak in the store’s compactor.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue attended, but a spokesman for the supermarket giant described the fire as ‘extremely small’ and stressed it was ‘put out very quickly’, with no injuries. He added Tesco apologises for any inconvenience caused.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said there had been moderate damage by fire to a compressor and container and moderate damage by smoke to an adjacent warehouse.

They said the cause was burnt bread in the compressor.
