Stole drink because she was thirsty

SHOPLIFTER Katrina Hooper stole a drink because she was thirsty, a court has been told.

Boston magistrates heard she was seen on CCTV by the manager of the West Street Co-op who saw her take a soft drink and leave without paying.

Marie Stace, prosecuting, said she was seen by police nearby and when spoken to about the theft, she handed over the can of drink from her bag.

“She had money on her but said it was not hers to spend,” Miss Stace said.

Hooper, 20, of London Road, Boston, admitted theft on May 16 and failing to answer her bail on June 8.

Carrie Simpson, representing, said she had managed to beat a drug addiction but recently had difficulties coping when her partner was jailed.

“She stole from the basic need of thirst but couldn’t use the money she had because it did not belong to her,” Ms Simpson said.

On Wednesday, magistrates said they were encouraged to hear of Hooper’s success at staying off drugs.

She was conditionally discharged for 12 months.
