Thief must complete unpaid work

SHOPLIFTER Elio Olivera stole because he had no food.

Boston magistrates were told on Wednesday that Olivera was spotted by a security officer in Asda who said he put meat in his bag and then went to the self service till before leaving without paying.

Olivera, 39, of Middlecott Close, Boston, admitted theft of goods worth £27.49 on June 1.

He told the court he only had £5 and tried to pay with that but the machine wouldn’t accept it but he needed the food because he had none in the house.

He asked the court if there was any work because then he could have some money to live on instead of benefits.

The bench heard from the Probation Service who said Olivera has support from Addaction and the Lincolnshire Action Trust but he needed work to occupy his time.

Magistrates imposed a 12 month community order with 60 hours of unpaid work.
