Hundreds of hands clear up litter mess

Hundreds of little litter pickers have worked hard to clear unsightly litter from in and around school grounds.

Ahead of the eighth annual ‘big town clean-up’ event, pupils from Boston West, Park Academy and Swineshead Primary School took part in their own schools’ clear-up.

Over the next few weeks, in the run up to the Easter break, 498 pupils from 10 schools will take part in their own clean-up, gathering litter from in and around their grounds.

Also taking part will be St Nicholas Primary, Boston, Hawthorn Tree, Fishtoft, Carlton Road Academy, Wrangle Primary, Pioneers Free School, St Mary’s RC Primary, and Wyberton Primary.

Jen Moore, Boston Borough Council’s environmental and sustainability officer, who joined the children for the litter-pick, said: “It never fails to impress me how enthusiastic the children are and how much fun they have.

“They are so proud of what they have done and take great pleasure in anything unusual they find.”
