A NEW children’s nursery in Kirton has received a ‘Good’ rating from the Government’s education watchdog.

Little Explorers Day Nursery, in Willington Road, only opened in September last year, but has aready achieved praise from Ofsted for its ‘caring and attentive’ staff.

An excerpt from the report reads: “Children clearly enjoy their time at the nursery and are well-looked after by caring and attentive staff.

“Close relationships have formed, where staff and children are well-respected by each other. For example, children demonstrate beautiful manners at the lunch table.”

The report also noted how children were ‘well-supported’ in their chosen activities and are ‘developing good self-esteem’.

Staff were praised for planning and offering a ‘broad variety of play and learning experiences based on the children’s interests and development needs’.

The children themselves, were rated by the Ofsted inspector as ‘good’ for their behaviour, demonstrating good levels of independence, confidence, and ‘kindness and consideration to their peers’.

This, they said, was helped by the consistent approach of the staff, offering children ‘clear explanations and reasonable boundaries’.

Speaking to The Standard, the nursery’s manager Hayley Connor said: “I was thrilled with the report.

“Myself and my team have worked very hard to ensure we give top-quality childcare to all our children.”

She added: “It was a great pleasure to receive a ‘good’ as it shows the dedication of my team.”

The nursery, based in a former Victorian school house, has room for 100 children, aged between six weeks, to eight years-old.

It currently has four members of child care staff and 28 children.
