A parade through Boston town centre forms part of this year’s lights switch on night – and organisers hope it might become an annual event.

The RAF Waddington Pipes and Drums band will lead the way from the Cattle Market outside the New England Hotel at about 6.15pm on Friday, November 30.

They will be followed along Wide and Strait Bargate into the Market Place by cars supplied by Thurlby Motors carrying the Mayor and the night’s special guest – Emmerdale stars Fiona Wade and Bhasker Patel and Boston boxer Callum Johnson.

The parade will also feature vehicles from the Bubble Car Museum, cast from Polka Dot Pantomimes’ Sleeping Beauty and West End Cinema staff dressed as characters from their favourite festive films.

Members of the public are being encouraged to get into the spirit of the night by donning fancy dress.

The line up will be completed by the officially licensed Fireman Sam and two fire engines – one vintage vehicle and a modern one.

The stars will get off at the Market Place stage to switch the lights on (at about 6.45pm) before heading back along to Pescod Square to officially open Santa’s Grotto.

The night will be followed by a festive weekend, with markets on the Saturday and Sunday.

Boston BID manager Niall Armstrong said: “Hopefully the parade makes it a little bit different and then on the Sunday we’ve got the traditional Christmas market too.

“I think there’s something for everybody.

“The parade could be the start of something big.”
