DETERMINED carers from the now defunct Boston’s Alzheimer’s Society have secured the continuation of their weekly meetings.
The town’s Alzheimer’s Society group came to an end when the contract was not renewed for all those in Lincolnshire by the County Council.
Now a group of carers from the borough, who regularly attended the Thursday gathering at Fydell House, have secured £500 in funding from Carers Connect to continue to hold the meetings.
New treasurer Pauline Thacker told The Standard: “A volunteer from the Len Medlock Centre helped us to organise becoming our own group, separate from the Alzheimer’s Society.
“We are now called Boston Alzheimer’s Carers Group, and we welcome all dementia carers.”
The group will be meeting every Thursday at Fydell House, Boston, from 1.30-3.30pm including tomorrow (Thursday). Carers can also join in the group’s monthly lunches at the Admiral Nelson in Benington, held on the first Monday of the month from 11.30am.
The group offers support to carers who are given a chance to talk to others in a similar situation.
