A 1920s Great Gatsby-style ball is to take place in Hubberts Bridge next month to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The event will be held on April 18, 7pm-1am, at the village community centre. Organiser Sarah Swan-Smith said: “Unfortunately the Macmillan charity is exceptionally close to my heart as my mum passed away from ovarian cancer in May 2014 after a two-year hard-fought battle.
“My mum’s passing spurred me on to try to achieve a ‘challenge’ in her memory; I entered and won a golden ballot place in the 2015 London Marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support. To be able to gain one of these highly-coveted places I pledged to raise a minimum of £2,500, which on my own is quite a mammoth task.
“After deliberating on the best way to achieve this pledge the idea of a ball was born. Once the premises were booked, the theme chosen and the tickets printed there has been no stopping me.” Local firms have donated a host of prizes for a raffle and auction. Tickets £40.
