A special fundraiser to give a brave Kirton child with a life-threatening medical condition a dream trip to Disneyland needs your support.
Five-year-old Chiara Danks suffers with Macrophage Activation Syndrome – a potentially-fatal complication of rheumatic disease.
She also has Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and has endured numerous tests and procedures at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Single mum Toni is trying to raise money to take Chiara on a holiday to Disneyland Paris – with some funds to go towards buying a much-needed wheelchair and stairlift.
Toni said: “Our doctor at Sheffield said he is shocked Chiara is still here – and he thinks she has been very brave. She’s had to deal with this awful adult thing, but he said visiting Disneyland will give her the perfect chance to act like a child again.”
Toni said every day is a struggle for them, with the smallest of illnesses often seeing Chiara back in hospital.
She added: “She’s spent the last year battling through – and we are so proud, but she needs a break.”
The fundraising event takes place at Kirton Leisure Centre on June 1, from noon.
There will be a DJ, bouncy castle, hogroast, hotdog stand and face-painting among many other activities. There will also be various games and prizes.
Chiara’s aunt Harriet Danks has set up a Justgiving page to boost the funds. She wrote: “No five-year-old girl should have to go through being so ill so young. She suffers from Macrophage Activation Syndrome and nearly died from her illness.
“All the money raised will go towards providing Chiara with a holiday away from doctors and tests. Any left over money will go towards providing a wheelchair or stairlift to aid her everyday life.”
