A PLUCKY seven-year-old boy from Wyberton has managed to raise more than £7,000 for Pilgrim Hospital by tackling a huge 140-mile bike ride across the breadth of the country.
Josh Wilkinson, of Tytton Lane East, was joined by his dad Simon and family friend Wayne Huckle in the adventure, which saw the trio cycle from Whitehaven in the north-west to Tynemouth in the north east on the famous Coast to Coast route. – which they completed in just two-and-a-half days.
Josh, who is a student at St Thomas’ Primary School was the one who came up with the idea of raising money for the hospital as a way to give something back to the people who helped him when he was ill as a baby. He spent time in several hospitals after contracting MRSA, chicken pox and pneumonia at the age of 11 months.
Dad Simon said: “I’m really proud of Josh for doing this and all the dedication he put into the training.
“Doing this cycle ride is our way of saying thank you and giving something back for the treatment he received.”
