A man said he was horrified to think a patient could have been waiting for a Pilgrim Hospital appointment following an admin mix-up.

Robert Livermore, from Spalding, contacted us after receiving a letter from a consultant’s secretary at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston – and he says it has left him with little confidence should he need to go there in the future.

One day I might need treatment there. It’s people’s lives

Mr Livermore, who is now retired and living at Whaplode, said: “I had no idea what it was when it arrived because all I could see across the address window of the envelope was an appointment date.

“The man named had got an appointment on Monday 34th August. Someone had got this a bit wrong.

“It’s not just the date – the letter was full of mistakes. It was sent to Ayscough ‘Aveneue’, @ was used instead of at when stating the time, and the consultant was said to be from the ‘A & Department’.”

Mr Livermore says he asked his next door neighbour if the letter was meant for him, but was told that it wasn’t.

He added: “I thought the hospital was supposed to be improving but this doesn’t fill you with confidence.

The United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT), which runs Pilgrim Hospital, was taken out of special measures in March following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Keeping accurate records was one area highlighted as needing attention, but the trust said the staff’s “hard work” had led to improvements.

Tina White, deputy director of operations at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We apologise for the errors made in issuing the letter and we rectified the situation as soon as it was brought to our attention.

“We take all aspects of patient care extremely seriously, this includes written correspondence and we have therefore initiated an internal investigation to identify how errors were made and have put measures in place to ensure this does not happen again.

“We encourage any individuals with any concerns about any aspects of care to contact the hospital directly. We have a complaints team within the hospital who can be contacted on complaintsulh@ulh.nhs.uk We also have a Patient Advice and Liaison Service which can be contacted at Pilgrim hospital on 01205 446243.”
