People with eye problems such as glaucoma and ocular hypertension are being invited to attend a support group in Boston.

The glaucoma team from the Royle Eye Department at Pilgrim Hospital set up the group to allow patients to receive information and advice from health care professionals outside of their hospital appointments.

The support group is led by Consultant Ophthalmologist Mohit Gupta and is supported by the International Glaucoma Association (IGA).

Darralynne Stell, Glaucoma Specialist Nurse at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “The group provides a forum for patients to air problems, learn more about the disease and share concerns. Previous sessions have been really successful and we have received good feedback from many people who have attended.”

The support group is aimed at patients of all ages and stages of the conditions glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

It will hold its next meeting in the Lecture Hall Medical Education Centre, Pilgrim Hospital, on Friday at 1.30pm.

Topics covered during the event will include: Neuroprotection by Consultant Ophthalmologist Dr Gupta and Macular Degeneration by Associate Specialist Dr Dias.

Anna Richards from the Foundation Trust team will also be at the meeting to give an update on ULHT’s application for Foundation Trust status and to sign up new members.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the session with answers provided by the glaucoma team.
