Youngsters can join in the Big Friendly Read this summer at Sleaford Library.

The Summer Reading Challenge invites children to read six books during the school holidays.

Each child will receive a membership pack, prizes and, on completion, a special certificate. The theme is the ‘Big Friendly Read’ based on the 100th anniversary of ‘Big Friendly Giant’ author Roald Dahl’s birthday.

Sleaford Library has a host of activities for children, with Big Friendly Chatterbook Wednesdays from July 27 to August 31, craft activities on July 28, August 11 and September 2, plus a colouring competition for Beatrix Potter’s 150th birthday. There will also be Monday story times and a Challenge Certificate presentation ceremony to coincide with Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday. Kay Ablard, Library Team Leader, said the challenge helps prevent children’s reading skills dipping over the holidays in a fun way.
