RELIVE the excitement of a night at Liverpool’s Cavern Club in the ‘60s at Blackfriars Theatre next week.
Mersey Mania starring The Beat Club, a four-man group, features songs from artists which originated from ‘the most famous beat club in the world’, according to band frontman Steve Quillon.
The show includes songs by The Searchers, The Swinging Blue Jeans, The Beatles, The Paramounts and The Rolling Stones.
The show focuses mostly on the years 1965 and 1969, and includes ‘scouse humour’, choreography and audience participation as well as the live music.
The group promises to help audiences understand within minutes ‘why this musical craze swept across the globe so quickly’.
Steve, who was born in Liverpool, made two appearances at The Cavern in 1969, earning his group from those days a place in The Cavern Club Wall of Fame.
The rest of the band consists of Richie Boddy on lead guitar, Steve ‘Suds’ Sudlow on drums and Darren ‘Daz’ Howe on bass guitar.
All the instruments used are originals from that time period and the group use a set that ‘helps recreate the atmosphere at the club all those years ago’.
Mersey Mania will be appearing at the Spain Lane venue next Saturday, from 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £15.
