As Prince William and Catherine Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to their little boy – two mothers were doing the same in Pilgrim Hospital.
A total of 11 babies were born across Boston and Lincoln on the same day as the royal baby including mothers Jyothy Thomas and Gemma Marshall.
Jyothy, 33, of London Road, Wyberton, gave birth to her daughter Liana at 5.04pm – she weighed 7lb 1oz.
Dad George, 35, said the pair felt something ‘really special’ and said they had only found out about the royal baby a few hours later.
He said: “She’d kept waiting. My friends had said maybe it’ll be the same day,” added Jyothy, “I said no, I just want to push my baby out.”
The pair have two other children Abel, six, and Fiona two, but Jyothy said this pregnancy was different.
She said she had been sick throughout the previous two, but with this one she had been sick at the start but had been fine for the rest of it.
Gemma Marshall and Jak Marshall, 24, from Forsythe Crescent, Skegness, also had a baby boy, Jaxon, on Monday – weighing in at 9lb 10oz - just a few days before her birthday on Sunday.
She said her friends had been messaging her throughout the labour keeping tabs on how she was competing with the royal couple.
“I didn’t know she’d gone into labour until my friend texted me and said can you get a move on the royal baby’s due today,” she said.
“It was either have a royal baby or be the same star sign as me so I wanted him born.”
She said she plans to send off for one of 2,013 silver coins made to solemnize the occasion.
