A student at Boston College has been left ‘lost for words’ after triumphing in a national competition for aspiring chefs.
Kirsty Fonseca, 18, from Boston, won ‘best main’ in The British Turkey Student Chef of the Year 2015 finals, held recently at University College Birmingham.
The catering student was one of eight finalists in the competition, which saw budding chefs at more than 25 colleges challenged to create a starter and main course dish using British Turkey meat.
Entrants were required to fit in with this year’s theme of pirates.
Kirsty said: “I am lost for words that I have won but am so proud of myself as it was my first time entering a cooking competition!”
She was joined in the final by fellow Boston College catering student Ebony Joseph.
Kirsty won two days’ work experience at The Dorchester, the five-star hotel in London, and the chance to see her dishes served to more than 300 guests at the annual British Turkey Awards ceremony at The Dorchester in September.
She also received £450 of Russums catering equipment vouchers, with the college also winning £500 in Russums vouchers too.
