There’s not long left to put forward your suggestions for people who deserve recognition for their tireless community work.
We have teamed up with sponsors L&H Homes once again for the annual Boston Standard Pride Awards – and we need you to help us find the people who are deserving of an accolade.
Nominations close at noon on Friday, so don’t delay – fill in the form in this week’s Boston Standard and get it in to us as soon as you can.
This area has alsways produced people to be proud of – from Herbert Ingram to John Taverner and Chris Woods to Melanie Marshall and we know that there are many of you out there that do so much good work in the community without so much as a pat on the back or second thought.
These awards give us the chance to pause and thank those people.
Whether it be an unsung figure who does great work behind the scenes or a public figure who has gone beyond the call of duty – we want to hear who you think is deserving of an award.
There are seven categories in which readers can nominate their community heroes (see the next page).
From these nominations a shortlist of nominees will then be drawn up and readers will get to choose when they think should be the winner.
Those on the list will be invited to an awards evening at Boston West Golf Centre on May 1 – where the winners and runners-up will be revealed and celebrated.
Once votes have been cast an independent panel of judges will choose a winner to be named the overall Boston Achiever 2013.
Nominees must live or work within the Boston Standard circulation area.
No photocopies will be accepted.
The categories are:
Boskat Child Achiever’s Award
This award will go to a child up to and including the age of 12 on April 1, 2013. The achievement can be in any field, either school based or an out-of-school hobby or activity. The nominee could be a highly-talented youngster or it could be someone who has battled against a disability.
Customer Care Award
This person may work in the public or private sector and will offer customer service above and beyond the call of duty. He or she could work in an office, on public transport or at the end of a telephone. Maybe you know a good lollipop lady, cheerful bus driver or a welcoming receptionist.
Community Spirit Award
The Community spirit Award will go to someone who makes a positive effort to improve the community in which he or she lives, and who is not covered by the other categories. It could be a voluntary worker, someone who runs a local organisation, or a professional person who puts in that extra effort to serve his/her fellow man and woman.
The Carer Award might go to a professional carer who provides support and friendship over and above the call of duty, to an individual who voluntarily cares for a family member or members, or to someone who cares for a neighbour or others in the community.
Top Teacher Award
The Top Teacher Award will go to a teacher in a school within the Boston standard circulation area. The teacher nominated will have helped his/her pupils achieve success or be someone who goes the extra mile when it comes to helping organise extra curricular activities.
Senior Achievement Award
This award is aimed at recognising those young-at-heart members of the community who go the extra mile. Perhaps they excel at a hobby, have extraordinary talents or give up time for someone else. Perhaps they are just a happy 60-something who always wears a smile. Nominees for this award must be 60 or over on April 1, 2013.
Youth Achiever Award
The youth Achiever Award may go to a youngster who has achieved some notable success, either at school or in an outside school activity. It could be a young person who has an outstanding talent, or someone who has achieved something with the odds against them. The person nominated must be between 13-18 inclusive on April 1, 2013.
