Mayor offers condolences following firefighter deaths in Boston US


The Mayor of Boston Coun Paul Kenny has written a letter of sympathy and condolence to the Mayor of Boston, Massachusetts, following the deaths of two city firefighters.

Lieutenant Edward J. Walsh (43), married with three children aged under 10, and firefighter Michael R. Kennedy 33, a single man, were both killed while battling a basement blaze.

Thirteen other firefighters were injured in the incident.

US Boston Mayor Martin Walsh said. “We lost two heroes. It is a sad day in the city of Boston.”

Coun Kenny said in his letter to Mayor Walsh: “I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of the two firefighters killed in the line of duty in your City of Boston and may I, on behalf of the council, extend our deep and sincere sympathy to you all on your sad loss and this terrible tragedy.

“These brave men have sacrificed their lives for the safety of others. They were true heroes and our thoughts and prayers are with you, the families of the firefighters and the citizens of Boston City at this time. We send our heartfelt condolences to you all.

He added: “We have always been very proud to have an association with Boston, Massachusetts, which is why I felt it important to assure you of our support and friendship at this very difficult time.”
