A couple who have dedicated seven decades to helping young people in Wrangle have been honoured with British Empire Medals (BEMs).
Bert and Barbara Bonsor were presented with the medals by HM Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire Toby Dennis at Wrangle Youth Club on Friday.
Bert, 90, and Barbara, 85, have served on the committee of the youth club for an astonishing 67 years.
“We were absolutely shocked when they told us about the medals,” said Barbara. “I’m still recovering.”
The couple kept the youth club going over the years - and are now helped by their daughter Jayne and volunteer Jason Wilkes.
Asked what drives their ongoing passion for the youth club, Barbara said: “We just like the company of young people and it’s nice to help them out.
“We will keep going for as long as weare well enough as I think it would seem very lonely without it.”
The idea to nominate them came about at the club’s 65th anniversary celebrations when members looking back over archives realised just how much of their lives they had dedicated to the club.
Daughter Jayne said: “I’m incredibly proud of them. “
