CHAJER Ester Guttman (Ester) has died at the age of 92 following a short illness.
Miss Guttman, of Skirbeck Court, had lived in the area for 32 years, after coming to the UK from Germany in 1939 to escape the Jewish persecution.
She was joined after the war by her adoptive mother and her brother Herman.
When she moved to the UK, Miss Guttman’s ambition was to become a nurse, and she spent her working life in that role, progressing to area nurse specialist in child health before her retirement in 1979.
Following retirement she volunteered at the Boston cancer shop and enjoyed attending Holy Trinity Church.
Her interests included painting, swimming and holidays.
She also wrote a book chronicling her life and times entitled Thank God for England.
Her funeral was held at Holy Trinity Church, followed by cremation. The ceremony was led by the Rev Simon Dowson.
Arrangements by Carr Funeral Service.
