DEREK Fletcher, of Kirton, has died at Pilgrim Hospital following a short illness.

He was 80.

Born in Boston, he lived in the area for 20 years before moving to Peterborough. He moved back to the Boston area in 2002.

A married man, he is survived by wife Rita, son Stephen, grandsons Brett and Dale and great-granddaughter Isabelle Hughes.

Mr Fletcher spent three years in the Merchant Navy, becoming a draughtsman for Baker Perkins, in Peterborough, during his working life.

He worked there for 30 years until his retirement.

He enjoyed the sports of cricket and football.

Mr Fletcher’s funeral took place at Boston Crematorium and was followed by cremation. The service was officiated by the Rev Gary Morgan.

Chief family mourners were: Rita Fletcher (wife), Stephen Fletcher (son), Karen Fletcher (daughter-in-law), Brett Fletcher and Dale Fletcher (grandson), Holly Hughes (grandson’s partner), Isabelle Hughes Fletcher (great-granddaughter), Audrey Dady and Melvin Dady (sisters-in-law).
