FRED Gilding, of Swineshead, has died in Pilgrim Hospital following a long battle with diabetes.
He was 83.
Born in Swineshead, he lived in the village for his entire life.
A married man, he leaves behind wife Hilda, children Caroline and Nic, grandchildren Callum and Megan, sister Joy, nephew Mark and nieces Lisa and Natalie.
During his working life he was a farmer, and a vegetable, fruit and flower grower. He also ran a vegetable, fruit and flower shop in Ruskington. In later life he was a driver and pall bearer for Michael Herring and also worked for F. E. Addlesee and Son.
Away from work he enjoyed running, football, shooting and establishing a two-acre wood. He took an interest in wildlife and birds, and fed tame pheasants twice daily on the lawn.
His funeral took place at St Mary’s Church, Swineshead, and was followed by cremation. The service was officiated by the Rev Jenny Durrant.
