Nominate town Olympic torch bearers

THE search is on for someone to carry the Olympic torch for Boston in the run up to the 2012 games.

Boston Borough Council is asking people to nominate others in the Boston area to be Olympic torch bearers - although it is yet to be confirmed if it will run through the town.

Nominations need to be someone who always strives to do their best or individuals who will inspire millions of people watching the torch relay.

The council’s portfolio holder for leisure services Coun Yvonne Gunter said she wants the Olympic organisers to have a clutch of potential torch bearers from our area to choose from.

Coun Gunter said: “This is a real chance for a deserving local person to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime experience which is truly global.

“I want the torchbearer selectors to be spoiled for choice when it comes to inspirational people from the Boston area.

“This is a real opportunity for our area to be represented – I know we have many courageous, talented and dedicated individuals who are qualified for this job. Please make sure they are nominated.”

The exact route of the torch relay is a closely-guarded secret, however, it will pass within an hour of 95 per cent of people in the UK, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey during the 70-day Olympic journey which begins on May 19.

l To nominate who you think deserves to carry the torch visit by 12pm on June 29, 2011.
