‘A fantastic evening’, ‘excellent’, ‘worth every penny’ were just some of the comments heard at the end of the recently held event.

Blackfriars Theatre and Arts Centre had teamed up with the Rotary Club of Boston to present the talk, titled Pirate Radio and the 60s - The Boat That Rocked, with all profits going to charity.

Acting as host was BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Scott Dalton (pictured left with Johnnie).

At the conclusion of the evening, Johnnie generously gave up his time to sign memorabilia in the foyer.

* Luncheon Club

Boston and District Women’s Luncheon Club recently held its March meeting at the Boston & County Club.

Members welcomed guest speaker Paula Cornwell for a talk titled Mind Your Motoring Manners.

Paula was dressed in 1920s period costume and took the role of the Hon Mrs Victor Bruce.

Mrs Bruce was, in fact, a racing driver and was the first woman from the UK to win the Coup des Dames in the 1927 Monte Carlo Rally.

Her love of velocity led her to becoming the first woman in the UK to be fined for speeding.

Paula gave members a light-hearted and entertaining talk.

The April meeting will see Bev Howland give a talk titled Have Belt Will Travel.

Anyone interested in coming along, should call Maggie on 01205 365848.

A bring and buy stall attracted a good response, the church reported, and Gosberton Methodist Church impressed with its selection of cake, scones, pastries, and cheese.

The next home movie show will be held at Gosberton Baptist Church on Monday, March 23, at 2pm.

It will include: Cadbury’s World, Bressingham Gardens, the locations of Midsomer Murders, Emmerdale, and Last of the Summer Wine, plus Scopwick, Digby, Dorrington, and Ruskington.

The cost of £2 includes a tea.

All are welcome.

* Festival

Volunteers are needed for St Peter and St Paul’s Church Flower and Craft Festival, due to run from Saturday, April 25, to Sunday, May 3.

This could be just a few hours to help on the stalls, in the cafe, and with the baking.

Volunteers are also needed to tidy the church after the flower arrangers have finished on Friday, April 24.

In addition, donations towards the tombola and the raffle table would be welcomed.

Tombola donations must be within at least six months of the sell-by date and must be unopened.
