Plans for historic building

A SIXTEENTH century building in Boston is to be transformed into a coffee shop and tea house.

Planning permission has been granted by Boston Borough Council to turn the Grade II-listed Church Key Studio into Ye Olde Tea Shoppe and retail unit.

The internal refurbishment is designed to retain its ‘oldie worldy charm’.

The building, situated on the edge of the River Haven at 30, Church Lane, has been vacant for a number of years.

It was previously an accessories shop called Spooky’s.

The application details plans to incorporate external seating and a ground-floor toilet.

There will be an internal stud partition wall to create the additional retail unit.

The applicant’s design statement noted the ‘great significance of the overall historical appearance and future prosperity of this part of the town centre’.

It read: “It is not only essential that these historical buildings are retained and preserved but are fully utilised and made functional for present day use.”
