POLICE STATEMENT: Motorcycle, lorry and three cars involved in collision on A17

Police have confirmed two people have been injured during a collision along the A17 in Swineshead this morning (Monday).

A motorcycle, lorry and three cars were involved in the collision, which took place at 11.45am.

According to Lincolnshire Police two people are reported to have been injured - a woman driver of one of the cars and a male rider of the motorbike.

The rider of the bike was taken via air ambulance to Queens Medical Centre with a head injury.

A fire and rescue spokesman told The Standard Hydraulic cutting equipment was used to release the woman from her car. She was taken to Pilgrim Hospital.

The crew have cleared an oil spill from the lorry and all vehicles are now safe.

Traffic was diverted through Swineshead to avoid congestion.

A tweet from the service said that at 11.45am this morning (Monday) crews from Donington and Boston were called to the collision on Villa Lane, in Swineshead.

Shortly after, they updated the feed to say that crews were using hydraulic cutting gear to assist in release of one person from a car.

A spokesman from Lincolnshire County Council said: “There are major delays to traffic due to a road traffic accident near Villa Lane, on the A17 near Swineshead.

“Traffic is having to be diverted through Swineshead, and drivers are advised to avoid the area.

“The A1121 is not suitable as an alternative route due to current roadworks.”

People have been tweeting to say that traffic congestion is building in the local area because of the accident.

An air ambulance has also been reported to be in the area.
