Council leaders have been summoned to attend a secretive meeting at the borough council which is now under way (Tuesday).

Leaders of the various groups within the council were emailed at about 7.20am today asking them to attend the meeting which began at 2pm.

Council leader Peter Bedford has confirmed to The Standard that he had called the meeting but said he was unable to explain what will be discussed until it is completed.

He said the meeting is expected to last ‘a couple of hours’ and that an announcement will follow.

When questioned further he said there was ‘nothing out of the way specifically’ behind the unusual move.

The Standard understands councillors themselves are in the dark as to what will be discussed.
