Conservative county counillors in Lincolnshire say they ‘warmly welcome’ Prime Minister David Cameron’s promise of an in/out referendum on Britain’s role in the European Union.

County council leader Martin Hill says he is looking forward to the debate.

He said: “This is very much in line with what we have been calling for and a positive response to my letter which was sent following the Council debate about the EU in December.

“We believe that it is time that the public were allowed a say about our future EU membership and the seemingly endless pressure for further integration.

“There are benefits to our membership but also many issues particularly the large influx of migrants into our County which is a cause of concern for many residents.

“We look forward to a constructive debate.”

A spokesman for Boston and Skegness MP Mark Simmonds said he was unavailable to comment on the matter until Monday.

What do you think? Do you want a referendum on our role in the EU?
