VEGETABLE bowling – yes, you heard it here first!

One of the events planned for Central Park on Bank Holiday Monday to celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be the first World Bowling Greens Competition.

Devised by Boston Borough Councillor Mark Baker, players will pit their skills against each other in a knockout tournament.

The game will be loosely based around a traditional game of bowls, but with jacks and bowls replaced by Lincolnshire vegetables!

The pick of the crop will aim to root out opponents’ weaknesses and leaf them in a stew as they demonstrate they’re not so cabbage looking on their way to harvesting the top honour!

Today (Wednesday) Coun Yvonne Gunter got in some practice – and we were there to capture the fun on video.
