VIDEO: “We must hold our nerve against UKIP threat,” says MP

Boston MP Mark Simmonds defended his record in light of criticism from borough council leader Peter Bedford - and vowed Conservatives need to hold their nerve against the threat of UKIP.

Mr Simmonds came under fire from Coun Bedford yesterday, who said the MP for Boston and Skegness should be worried about losing his seat to UKIP, who polled 52 per cent in Boston in the European election.

Coun Bedford said Mr Simmonds needs to come to Boston more.

The junior foreign office minister spoke to reporter Gemma Gadd to address the comments during a visit to Boston Stump this morning.

He told The Standard the party needs to ‘hold our nerve’ and said that while he does come to Boston ‘all the time’ he does have significant other responsibilities as and MP and Government minister.
