Community champions who toil away in all weathers to help keep Boston and some of the villages clean and tidy have been praised by town Mayor Coun Richard Austin.
At a special thank you event in the council chamber, he told the volunteers that, with funding cuts, their involvement was “extremely appreciated” by the council and they played a crucial role in keeping the area clean.
He said since 2008, the number of community champions had grown to 91, tackling litter and reporting other issues for council staff to deal with, and they encouraged friends and family members to become involved. Their efforts had played a key role in Boston gaining its first gold award this year in the Britain in Bloom competition.
Boston, Sutterton, Wyberton, Kirton, Kirton End, Bicker, Swineshead, Fishtoft, Butterwick, Frampton, Old Leake and Freiston all have community champions.
