Pub brings home bacon for ‘copter

THE DUKE of Wellington in Midville brought home the bacon once again for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance when around 90 guests tucked into a chine and ham supper.

There was also a raffle and auction which helped raise a total of £760 towards the pub’s 2011 fundraising.

Attending the event was Peter Aldrick, chief executive of the air ambulance, who collected a cheque for £14,999.65 raised from pub events held in 2010.

Licencees Trevor and Dawn Wilson have been fundraising since 1999 and have amassed a whopping £122,271.61 for the air ambulance.

The pub has organised a variety of events, including bingo, quizzes, raffles, sausage and mash suppers, pie and peas evenings and auctions.

One of the most popular fundraisers is an annual raft race, held on the river in front of the pub, which is taking place on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Dawn told the Standard: “We want to say thanks to the fundraising committee and everyone who helped make the night such a success.”
