Boston Standard readers, together with pupils from several local schools, filled 548 boxes with gifts and toys for the Rotary Shoebox Appeal.

They have now been delivered to Romania and other East European countries in time for Christmas.

“The response this year has been fantastic”, said Carol Brown, chairman of Youth Services for Boston St Botolph Rotary.

“It is wonderful to see the enthusiasm and generosity of local children who want to make Christmas brighter for those less fortunate.”

Schools who participated this year included the Giles and Staniland academies, St George’s School and Butterwick Primary and Pre-School playgroup.
