THE sad death of Bee Gee Robin Gibb this week brought back some interesting memories for Boston Borough Councillor Paul Gleeson – as the Labour man once performed with the singer at his home.
Former morris dancer Coun Gleeson, who was formerly a councillor for Mr Gibb’s home town of Thame in Oxfordshire, told The Standard he was invited with his group to perform at the star’s wedding anniversary, attended by other familiar faces including the other Gibb brothers Barry and Maurice.
After the group had performed, they joined the party, and later, found themselves involved in an impromptu performance of skiffle music with the Gibbs, comedian Billy Connelly and former Beatle Ringo Starr also joining in with the fun.
Coun Gleeson said: “It was a genuinely surreal evening and a really great night.
“He was a genuinely nice man. He had no side to him at all, as we would say in Oxfordshire.”
Mr Gibb died on Sunday following a long battle with cancer.
