There’s already a swinging and fetish club, a giant beer warehouse and now plans are in place to open a sex shop - is this Britain’s most liberal village?
Things look set to get sexy in Setchey, a tiny hamlet, after The Annex, which has run a sex club for several years, applied to the council for permission to open an adult shop.
With its three “playrooms” and “modern dungeon”, The Annex already caters for swingers and those with fetish tastes and has an eye-opening website advertising what it has on offer on a regular basis to both couples and singles.
Add to this the headquarters of one of the country’s biggest sellers of beer, Beers of Europe, and life in Setchey, also spelt Setch, certainly sounds interesting.
But, not everyone in the Norfolk village thinks it is the right location for this type of business.
West Winch Parish Council chairman Paul Foster said he was surprised by the application.
He said: “I would not have thought a sex shop is appropriate in a hamlet like Setch.
“Hardwick Industrial Estate is full of empty units which would be a more appropriate place than a residential area.
“I am surprised that a sex shop would be appropriate in Setch.”
Nevertheless, Victoria Seed has applied to West Norfolk Council for a license to open the sex shop and now the final say will come down to how liberal the Conservative led council are feeling.
