State-of-the-art high-tech solar panels are hoping to be a shining example in the council’s project to save and make cash to help pay for a sports centre’s refurbishment.
Workmen installed the 364 panels onto the Princess Royal Sports Arena in eight days.
It is hoped the 96KWp system, will produce an estimated annual output of 79,000 KWh making estimated annual carbon emission savings of 35,225kg.
The array is set to begin delivering free energy to the PRSA later this week and forms part of green energy measures, which will also include a wood-fired biomass boiler.
The energy efficiency measures at PRSA, together with more for the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex are estimated to cost £560,000 in order to generate income and savings to pay for £840,000 of repairs and improvements.
It is hoped there will be an estimated £2.4 million of savings over 20 years at both sites.
