THE ‘spiritual and physical’ were given a boost last week when money was handed out to the outogoing mayor’s chosen charities.

Peter Jordan held a special ceremony in the Mayor’s Parlour on Wednesday to hand over £10,008 to Macmillan Cancer Support and the Stump Restoration Fund.

“I guess you could say I have chosen to support both the spiritual and the physical with these donations,” said Mr Jordan.

“The church is such a great asset and focal point in the town, attracting much interest and tourism, but of course, it does much to benefit the spiritual side of life here too.”

The money was raised over the course of Mr Jordan’s year-long mayoral role, through various events held in the borough, including a golf match, Bollywood night, horse race evening and a dinner event held in the Stump’s knave.

It was split equally between the two chosen charities, with each receiving £5,004.

“Macmillan Cancer Support do much to help those with health conditions and were chosen as they did so much to help friends of ours who passed away this year,” said Mr Jordan”

He added: “I would like to thank the deputy mayor and mayoress and all of the committee for their hard work in helping to raise the money. The events we held gave much joy to the people of Boston.”
