A MOVE to call in the decision to re-open the training pool at the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex has been defeated, meaning the pool will remain open for the forseeable future.
Four councillors serving on Boston Borough Council asked for the decision to be sent back to the authority’s cabinet as they had serious questions about the plans behind it.
Couns Paul Gleeson, David Witts, Alison Austin and Richard Austin said they were all happy that the pool had been reopened, but that the business plan behind the partnership agreement behind it was not robust or clear enough.
Under the deal, which was agreed at the end of August by members of the cabinet, the council will pay out £195,000 to refurbish the pool and will receive £150,000 back from partners the Witham Schools Federation and Boston Amateur Swimming Club over the next five years. Money to fund running costs of the pool, which was closed because of money woes, will come from extra swims and increased funding from the swimming club, the council has said.
But the councillors said they wanted the agreement to be refined and reworded to ensure the council was protected and that each party involved had clear responsibilities. The motion was defeated on Monday.
