A teenager suffered serious injury after his car crashed into an electricity pole in Swineshead last night.

The collision occurred at about 11pm last night in Donington Road when a black Renauly Clio left the road and hit the pole.

The driver, a 19 year-old man from Kirton, had to be cut free by fire crews. He was the only person in the car.

He was taken to Pilgrim Hospital with serious injuries, including a fractured pelvis and severe blood loss, and was later transferred to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham for emergency surgery.

Police say he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The road was closed and then reopened at about 5.30am this morning.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the Clio prior to the collision.
