There will be something of the theatrical at Freiston this weekend – when the village hosts a pantomime-themed Christmas tree festival.

Groups, organisations and individuals have been asked to decorate their trees in line with the panto theme in time for the event, on Saturday – and characters from Boston’s pantomime are going along to mark the occasion.

The cast of Polka Dots’ production of Sleeping Beauty will be going along to officially open the festival and the Yuletide fair which will be running alongside it.

Gabriella Bradshaw, of BBC’s Hartbeat, who plays the evil Queen Carabosse in the Blackfriars production, will launch the event at 10am.

A total of 20 trees will be on show at St James’ Church in the village, which have been prepared by groups including local schoolchildren, Brownies, Scouts and residents.

The trees have been donated by Graham Elsam in memory of his wife, the late Jane Elsam.

Entrance to this winter wonderland, which is open on Saturday and Sunday, will be free.

Visitors will have the chance to really get into the Christmas spirit at the event, where they will be joined by a number of choirs, bell ringers and dance groups. There will also be games, crafts and a great raffle.

The event will draw to a close with a carol service at 6pm on Sunday.

Yuletide fun is set to continue at St James’ with a Christmas Jazz Concert on December 15. Boston Grammar School Jazz Band will provide an evening of entertainment for £4, which will include a glas s of mulled wine.
