Two die after car plunges into river in Chapel St Leonards

Police are appealing for witrnesses to a tragic incident where two people died after their car plunged into a river in Chapel St Leonards.

Emergency services rushed to Sea Lane at 3.22pm yesterday afternoon, where a white Fiat Punto entered a waterway.

Despite the efforts of members of the public and the emergency services, a 52-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other person in the car, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to hospital but later died.

There were no other people in the vehicle.

Sea Road and Skegness Road were both closed following the incident.
