UPDATE: Woman airlifted to hospital after A17 collision at Swineshead Bridge

A TWO-vehicle crash in Swineshead Bridge has resulted in a passenger being airlifted to hospital with ‘life-changing injuries’.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Boardsides at about 1.20pm yesterday (Thursday), near The Barge pub.

The vehicles involved were a Mercedes HGV lorry, driven by a 48-year-old man from Norwich, and a Peugeot 307, in which four people were travelling.

A 40 year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Peugeot, was the most seriously injured and was flown to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham by air ambulance with ‘life-changing injuries’.

The driver of the car, a 44 year-old man, and two further passengers, a man and woman, both 24, went to Pilgrim Hospital with less serious injuries. All were from Boston.

The driver of the HGV is a 48-year-old man from Norwich, who also attended Pilgrim Hospital.

The road reopened at 5.45pm.
