“I didn’t really want all this,” said modest Jean Newham as she collected the Carer Award.
Jean has been looking after a friend, who has suffered from a number of health problems, taking him out for meals, doing his banking and helping with the shopping.
“I’ve been doing it for about three years very quietly, nobody knows and now it’s all in the open,” she said.
The pair met at church club.
Jean said: “He had absolutely nobody, so I just took him and looked after him. I do all I can for him.”
Community nurse Louise Orford was highly commended in the carer category for the care and kindness she has shown to her friends, family and those she works with.
